Magee-Womens Research Institute
College Student Summer Internship Program

The College Student Summer Internship Program provides students with the opportunity to participate in scientific research of either basic or clinical orientation. The ultimate goal of the program is to interest students in biomedical research as a potential career.

Since its inception in 1995, approximately 185 students have successfully completed the program. Past students have come from local universities such as Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh, and Washington & Jefferson College as well as from distant institutions such as Kansas University, Georgia Tech and Notre Dame.

During the 8-week program (40 hours per week), each student has the opportunity to work under the guidance of an investigator(s) at Magee-Womens Research Institute. Students also attend weekly scientific seminars to enhance their knowledge of the different aspects of research particularly as they relate to women and infants' health. In addition, they will attend informal lunch meetings in which they hear about biomedical science as a career from the perspective of both junior and senior investigators. During the program, students will present their findings to the other participants as well as the faculty and staff at the 2010 College Student Summer Internship Program Presentation Day.

The start and end dates of the program are flexible and coordinated between the investigator and student. A stipend of $1500 is available to students on a competitive basis. Housing is not provided.
