Investigators,
clinicians, fellows, residents, and others mingled at this year’s
Research Day on Friday, June 4. The lobby outside Magee’s auditorium
was abuzz with talk of research. Inside, fellows and residents of Magee-Womens
Research Institute (MWRI) and residents of Magee’s Department of
Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences (OB/GYN/RS) showcased
their work through oral and poster presentations. The event’s keynote
speakers were Dr. Fred Turek of Northwestern University and Dr. Mark Phillippe of the University of Vermont College of Medicine.
Fellows and residents gave oral presentations and poster
presentations. This year was the inauguration of two lectureships - the Margaret Prine Joy Lecture in Reproductive Sciences and the Celebration of Life: A Lectureship Honoring Mothers. The lectureships lended the opportunity to invite the two keynote speakers. The first was funded by MWRIF Chairwoman, Peggy Joy, and the second was funded by Chair of the Department of OB/GYN/RS, W. Allen Hogge, MD, and wife Joan.
The day ended with award presentations. Kathrin Gassei, PhD, received the Paul M. Rike Fellowship Award, and Michelle Moniz, MD, received the Amy Roberts Health Promotion Research Award. The one-year awards provide funding for proposed research projects. In addition, the Best Fellow Oral Presentation and Best Fellow Poster Presentation awards were presented. Brian Hermann, PhD, and Gina Mantia-Smaldone, MD, took home the awards, respectively.
Dr. Sadovsky added that we
would not be able to provide such an outstanding environment for
training and research without the generous support of Drs. Marvin
Rulin, Paul Rike, and James Roberts. They are appreciated for their
visionary investments in the future of reproductive science and
medicine.
Later that evening, the Resident’s Dinner took place. Many awards were presented to residents of Magee’s OB/GYN/RS Department.
The Resident Research Day presentation winner was Devon M. Ramaeker, MD and Ashley S. Storms, MD, was acknowledged with the Best Resident Poster Presentation Award.
Research
Day provides many opportunities for fellows and residents to showcase
their research findings to professionals in their field.
